Here are some of the tips from the HARMONY framework I shared at the digital wellness session for you to read in your own time and share with anyone you think would benefit from more digital harmony at home and at work.

Thanks!

Laura

H – Honour rest

Rest isn’t a luxury – if we want to be well and flourish it’s the foundation for everything. When we protect our pauses, and make them intentionally screen free, our thinking becomes clearer, emotions steadier and energy more sustainable.

Try:

  • Short screen‑free breaks throughout the day.

  • Keeping bedrooms tech‑free with a simple alarm clock.

  • Setting work–life boundaries you talk about openly with colleagues and clients - two profiles, scheduled emails, work tech off at the end of the day, out of office notifications to manage expectations and urgent requests.

A – Attention management

Your attention is one of the most valuable things you own. Modern digital life pulls at it constantly, often without you even noticing. Managing your digital environment helps you think more deeply and feel less overwhelmed.

Try:

  • Limiting and managing the notifications on your phone, email and messaging apps.

  • Muting chats and groups that create negative noise.

  • Using Do Not Disturb or airplane mode for focus time.

  • Batching online tasks and working offline where you can.

  • Letting colleagues know when you’re focusing so expectations stay clear.

R – Relationships

We rely on our digital technology to stay connected and collaborate with others. By using our digital tools with intention, we communicate more clearly, respect each other’s time, collaborate with more ease and build truly trusting relationships.

Try:

  • Creating a simple team communications charter.

  • Being thoughtful with cc’ing and meeting invitations.

  • Removing digital distractions in meetings so you can be fully present.

  • Using Teams for planned check‑ins rather than being constantly available.

M – Mindful use of technology and AI

Mindful use means noticing your habits, understanding your autopilot and recognising when its helpful to turn tech on and turn it off. It helps you stay grounded, avoid digital drift and ensure you use technology in ways that genuinely support your wellbeing and performance.

Try:

  • Pausing before reaching for a device and trying to notice the trigger.

  • Starting the day with a clear intention for your focus.

  • Using AI consciously so it supports your judgement and creativity rather than replacing them.

O – Open communication

When people talk honestly about digital habits, preferences, boundaries and expectations, everything becomes easier. Clarity reduces overwhelm and helps teams work with more confidence. Normalising talking about our tech behaviour is vital in a world where we rely on digital for so much and have such varying relationships with it.

Try:

  • Encouraging conversations about digital differences and working styles.

  • Being empathetic to people’s preferences and work together to ensure everyone can thrive.

  • Talking openly about urgency, timeframes and boundaries.

  • Making your availability clear in signatures and out of office messages.

N – Nurture critical thinking

In a world of abundant information and rapid AI adoption, your ability to think critically is essential. Protecting it helps you make better decisions and use technology with intention.

Try:

  • Using AI to sharpen your thinking, not replace it.

  • Separating high‑value from low‑value tasks when using AI.

  • Trusting your skills, expertise and judgement and celebrating what makes you unique.

  • Protecting time for deep, uninterrupted thought and being intentional about non-AI supported time.

Y – Your Behaviour

Digital culture shifts through small, everyday actions, not big declarations. When you model healthy habits you create a ripple effect that strengthens your own resilience and that of the whole team.

Try:

  • Taking responsibility for your digital choices inside and outside work.

  • Sharing the habits that help you.

  • Celebrating mindful use of tech and AI.

  • Choosing behaviours that support a healthier, more human digital culture.

Good luck. Be kind to yourself and others, take small steps and be sure to keep healthy digital behaviours on the agenda at work.
